MCP (Model Context Protocol)

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open protocol for connecting AI applications such as Claude, ChatGPT-based tools or Cursor to external tools and data. An MCP server exposes named tools with typed inputs; an MCP client inside the AI app lists those tools and calls them when the model decides they are needed.

How it works

The official MCP documentation describes a client–server design: a host application runs MCP clients, each connected to a server that offers tools, resources and prompts. Servers can run locally or remotely; remote servers commonly use the Streamable HTTP transport (JSON-RPC over HTTP POST). Public servers can be listed in the official MCP Registry so clients can discover them.

Why it matters for small sites

MCP lets an AI agent do real work on a site's behalf instead of only giving advice: checking data, filling forms through APIs, or publishing content. For site owners it also means agents can recommend and use services that expose clear tools. A curated list for SEO work is in Best MCP servers for SEO.

Satelo's MCP server

Satelo runs a remote MCP server at https://satelo.io/mcp, listed in the MCP Registry as io.satelo/satelo. Public tools work without a key:

Account tools need a Bearer API key that the site owner creates in the dashboard: satelo_account, satelo_add_site, satelo_verify_site, satelo_site_settings, satelo_find_hosts, satelo_place_article, satelo_review_article. An agent can enrol a site the user owns, write an original article and place it on a matching host; it spends satellites, never card money, and unpublished orders are refunded. Setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor is on Satelo for AI agents.
