Satelo Quality Score
The Satelo Quality Score is a 0–100 rating of a website built mostly from open data: popularity lists, open link graphs, domain age, plus a crawl of the site's content and technical health. A brand-new site with no evidence of visitors or links scores close to 0. Anyone can check any domain free at /check/.
How the score is built
The score has two layers. The first is evidence that people use and link to the site:
- Traffic (weight 45): the best available signal among the Tranco popularity rank, presence in the Chrome UX Report (real Chrome users), traffic estimates for sites in the network, and verified pageviews from a connected site's Satelo plugin counter, which replace estimates.
- Authority (weight 35): the strongest of Open PageRank, the Majestic Million and the Common Crawl domain web graph; for network sites, Semrush and Moz figures fetched through Apify can also count.
- Age (weight 20): the earliest of the domain registration date (RDAP or WHOIS) and the first Wayback Machine snapshot.
If a source is unavailable, its weight is redistributed among the others. The second layer is a quality multiplier from 0.5 to 1.0, based on content (pages in the sitemap and web index, text volume, freshness) and technical checks (HTTPS, mobile viewport, compression, title and description, response time, PageSpeed). The multiplier can lower the evidence score but never creates value on its own.
Two caps apply: parked or nearly empty sites are limited to 5, and a high Moz Spam Score (60 or more, when known) multiplies the result by 0.6.
Why it matters for small sites
Third-party scores such as Domain Rating look only at backlinks and often give a young site 0 forever. The Quality Score shows which evidence is missing and updates when verified traffic arrives, about 7 days after the WordPress plugin starts counting.
How Satelo uses it
The score sets the recommended article price in satellites (1 ◉ at score 0, growing with the square of the score and with verified traffic) and the matching: hosts with the same niche and language and the closest score come first. The report also shows an “orbit” of ±10 points around the site's score. The score is Satelo's own estimate, not a Google metric, and it does not predict rankings.
